Your vehicle is one of your biggest investments, and you rely on it every day to get you to work, drop the kids off at school, or head down to the coast. When something goes wrong, you want to know that the shop you choose is going to treat you fairly and fix the problem correctly the first time. I want to share some practical advice on how to spot an honest, high-quality auto repair shop.

Another hallmark of a reputable business is transparency in pricing. You should always receive a detailed, written estimate before any wrenches touch your vehicle. This estimate should clearly break down the cost of the parts and the cost of the labor. An honest shop will also commit to a strict policy of calling you first if they discover additional issues once the vehicle is on the lift. There is absolutely no reason you should ever experience “sticker shock” when you walk up to the counter to pick up your vehicle and pay your bill.
Finally, you should ask about the warranty that backs up their repairs. A mechanic who does good work using quality parts will always stand behind it. You want to see a clear warranty that covers both the components replaced and the labor it took to install them. If a shop only guarantees their work until you drive out of their parking lot, they are telling you everything you need to know about the quality of their service.
